Cast Medals

Steel molds

We begin the medal production process by preparing the mold. We use precise metal molds  for medal production. Each mold is crafted on a CNC machine, after being coded by programmers. The mold-making process takes from 2 to 12 hours, depending on the complexity of the design

By using a metal mold, we guarantee:

  • the highest precision of execution
  • repeatability of casting
  • achievement of fine details and textures

Cast Medals

Casting

To create medals we use ZnAl.  Heated in a casting machine to a temperature of 420 degrees Celsius, metal changes into liquid. The liquid metal is then injected under high pressure, ensuring it fills every part of the metal mold precisely.

Once removed from the mold, you can see how the medal will look, but there’s still a long way to go before it’s finished.

Cast Medals

Size, Thickness and Openwork

The maximum size of a all cast medals we can do is 105 x 220 mm. The thickness can be:

  • between 3 and 12 mm for 3D and 2D cast medals
  • ~ 3,5 mm for printed cast medals

Additionally, the medals can take any shape and have transparent areas (only 3D and 2D cast medals), known as openwork.

Cast Medals

Textures

These enhance the appeal of the medals and protect their surface from damage. We can create 6 different textures.

Eco Friendly Coatings

To achieve various medal colors, we use certified and environmentally-friendly powder.

We use this decorating method mainly for environmental preservation and the health of our workers.

The range of colors we can achieve through powder coating is extensive.

Cast Medals

Patination

Patination is a chemical process where a layer of patina is applied to the medal’s surface. Excess patina is then mechanically removed, resulting is an aged appearance and highlighting the medal’s imperfections.

This service comes at an additional cost, making a patinated medal more expensive. Patination extend the production time as well.

Does the medal look better with it? Opinions are divided, so it all depends on your personal taste.

Color Filling

Color filling is a technique where specific areas of the medal are filled with a ceramic lacquer, available in 8 colors. This technique can only be used on 3D and 2D cast medals.

The paint-filling process is fully automated, ensuring high-quality results. However, it does extend the production time and increases the overall production cost.

Cast Medals

Printed Cast Medals

To save on production time, we created printed cast medals. They combine a 2D cast medal form with colourful UV printing.

💡 What is characteristic for this type of medals?
The medal is one-sided, but it can have any shape and size not exceeding 105 x 220 mm. It is also made using a steel mould and personalised with flat, colourful UV print. We do not use opeworks on this type of medals and do not employ the technique of filling with colourful ceramic paints.

What have we achieved?
The changes in medal production have allowed us to reduce production time and lower the cost of medals.

Printed Cast Medals

UV Colour Print

The Printed Cast Medal is basically a 2D medal that features color printing on its flat surface. As a standard, we produce it in a smaller thickness, and the casting mold is realized only on one side of the medal. It is worth noting that the back of the medal is always flat. In addition, due to the use of color printing, we do not use paint filling. Hence, it is not possible to combine these two techniques. We make color printing only in standard (flat) form.

This type of medal is great if you are organizing multiple events, or a series of events. Then we can make one shape of medal for you (then you pay only once for the steel form) and change only the color imprint.

For printed cast medals, we apply a flat print. This means that the print height does not exceed 0.2 mm

One Medal For Many Events

Printed cast medals have another significant advantage.

By choosing these medals, you only pay once for the metal mold, as we can use it multiple times to produce medals for your subsequent events. The designed shape of the medal remains the same, only the UV print design changes. This solution works perfectly for organizers of series of sporting events.
